Besides plain incompetent mechanics out there; there are places that will purposely damage something so that you have to bring the Car back.
My Boss hired a Guy that Instead of removing the Hard Lines on a Chevy (car) Diesel to get the Fuel Injection Pump out he loosened the connections at the IP and proceeded to bend the Fuel Injection Hard Lines 90 degrees so there was room to pull the IP out.
Another Mechanic? installed Core/Freeze plugs using Never-Seez as a sealant.
Another unstuck an (Chevy Diesel Engine again) by starteing the Engine. The Injector shot out taking the Fuel Injection Hard Line with it and was found on the other side of the fence.
Maybe we need on of those polls "is it safe to have worked done on your car by a shop?"
