Actually, that Kwik Lift is more like the thing I was talking about. Sam's club uses something similar when they install tires. Raises the car just enough to get under it; I think it would be pretty handy for tranny or engine work.
How about those rotisserie-type things that allow you to roll the car onto its side? I think those could be handy after you drain all the fluids.
