If you want a cheap bright light I'd go to a bicycle shop and buy one of those little LED things that take standard penlite batteries and are designed to fit on handlebars.

They are small enough and cheap enough to wedge virtually anywhere - so if they break it doesn't really matter (besides there is always duck tape) - and the battery life is outstanding.

You can buy them here in Holland for 2 Euros - that's about 2.5 USD - as nearly everything is cheaper in the USA - may be they'll be cheaper where you are!
