No, that won't help. The computer would not allow the car to downshift into a gear that would over rev the engine.
It works in the other direction, though on most Toy/Lexus's I've driven. With the selector in 1 or 2 it will let you bump up against the rev limiter, thereby limiting your top speed.
But when you downshift, the transmission won't shift till you have slowed to a predetermined speed.
tjts1 made a good point. It's really odd that he wouldn't think of trying to pull up on the accelerator pedal with his foot.
Has it occurred to anyone that it might have been a murder/suicide?
