No idle drop when put in gear W126 Euro '85 380SEL

From the one (now suspect) electronic manual I have, it states that normal idle in park/neutral is 750RPM, and it should drop to 500 once put into gear. Using my scope & inductive pick-up (and RPM gauge in car) I can see that it only drops about 50-75RPM; and this is probably the result of simply being in gear.

You can also tell the idle isn't dropping correctly as well since the whole vehicle "shifts" and the nose drops a good amount when putting it into gear.

While I'm waiting on a new manual, can anyone tell me what controls this and where it is?

Unless stated otherwise, any question I ask is about my greymarket 1985 380SEL.
