That's a laugh (or cry). Did you see the list of all vehicles sold under that program? 3 of the top 10 are SUVs/light-trucks, the Ford F150 and Chevy full-sized pickups being 2 of the top 10 nameplates sold. They simply traded old guzzlers in on new guzzlers. Further, really old and polluting vehicles weren't eligible, etc., etc.

It was to create a bump in the economy so that our prez could point and say "the economy is recovering".

Also note that most of the vehicles were Korean and Japanese nameplates.
