Mind you, it's a four lane divided highway............I'm in the right lane..........and the left lane is completely open for this DB to pass. Apparently, he doesn't want to pass because he wants to take the next exit ramp...........about 1/2 mile down the road.

another idea. turn on the emergency flashers and raise your hands like "my car has blown a coolant hose and I have to slow down....SORRY". take your foot completely off the gas. eventually the jerk will pass on the left. then, turn off the emergency flashers and continue on your merry way. for some reason, emergency flashers convey the idea that you are experiencing a very unusual situation (and isn't a DB riding your a** creating a possible safety issue??).
