You would think they'd know better but something else gets the best of them. I'm sure they don't want their "ego" (being first) get stomped on so they do what they do.
What's worse is when you combine these goons with large, powerful yet cumbersome vehicles. That is a disaster waiting to happen.

I’m thinking more along the lines of two guys running side by side at the speed limit, when traffic would otherwise be moving along just fine slightly above it.
I recall talking with a State Trooper who told me that they would much rather see all the cars spaced out on the highway moving along at 10 or so over the speed limit, than all bunched up in groups doing the speed limit. It’s much safer traveling when properly spaced apart. The potential for an accident is MUCH greater with all the cars running along in pods than not. Regardless of the speed limit.
