I’m thinking more along the lines of two guys running side by side at the speed limit, when traffic would otherwise be moving along just fine slightly above it.
I recall talking with a State Trooper who told me that they would much rather see all the cars spaced out on the highway moving along at 10 or so over the speed limit, than all bunched up in groups doing the speed limit. It’s much safer traveling when properly spaced apart. The potential for an accident is MUCH greater with all the cars running along in pods than not. Regardless of the speed limit.

Agreed. I try as much as I can not to travel in groups, that is a potential cause for multi car pile up. One weak/stupid driver is all it takes.
Problem is, when there is a highway patrol cruising along with vehicles on the highway, the cars tend to slow down to the speed limit. That creates their own small group.
