Turn it in until it just starts to give resistance. Then, with the engine running (provided it runs at the current setting), turn the bolt in until the engine smooths out.
This may take a few times of starting the engine & adjusting as it may take your IP a little bit to get going.
Once you have found the sweet spot, tighten the lock nut down.
I would strongly advise a set of stubby metric box-end wrenches for this effort. I found a decent set at Home Depot (Husky brand) of all places.
