2 piece fan shroud

Hmmmmmm. Seems there is some bad info here. When the 124 was intro'd they used a one piece fan shroud. Had to take the fan and clutch off anytime you wanted to work on the front of the engine. By '91, they had a 2 piece shroud that was much easier to take off and you could work on the front of the engine (103) without always needing to take off the fan and clutch. The proper tools are NOT that expensive and are a godsend to have on hand. Makes the job easier and more professional. Stahlwille makes the "socket" that has the hex drive on the end that fits into the bolt on the fan. Their part # is 3049. You can also use a metric allen wrench on the 103 motor. The fan holding tool I have was about $12 or so.No need to "fashion" tools when they are readily available. I have seen too many problems resulting from "making" tools. Unless you are in a combat situation, do it right the first time. Just my opinion.
