Actually I just bought a used AAV. I was thinking of taking one of them apart and seeing if there was something that can be done to make them work. I read somewhere that they are just press fitted together.

I still like barri's idea with the remote operated slide valve.

Another option I have thought of doing, is to install a solenoid valve in the inlet line to the AAV. With this, you would set idle speed with the engine warm and the solenoid valve closed. The valve would be opened during cold starts and the AAV would works as it usually does. But once engine warms up, you could close the solenoid.
