I would be suspicious of the ignition control unit, since it is for an eight cylinder engine and you have installed a six.

Where did you check for fuel? If you crack a fitting on the top of the fuel distributor, does it dribble out when you crank?

Same for spark. Have you checked it with a light against the timing marks?
