Want antenna to stay down when using CD player
I miss the dash switch to keep the antenna down from my W126, and I'd like to do the same thing with my W202. I NEVER use the radio, so I'd like to mount a switch in the trunk to keep the antenna from extending.
I removed the panel from the left side of my trunk, and found 4 wires going to the antenna unit. I also noticed a flat, thick, uncoated copper wire that was attached to the sheetmetal of the car, which I'm assuming is a ground. There were three wires bundled together that were light brown(orange maybe?), Red and a Blue with a white stripe as well as a thicker black wire. I'm assuming that the thicker black wire is power, and of the three bundled together, one is the turn on lead, and the other two the signal from the antenna to the radio. Am I correct? I'd like to disrupt the signal from the turn on lead with a switch, but I'm not sure which one it is.
My other concern is, could I possibly hurt anything by interfering with any of this? Is the a chance of damaging my head unit, or the antenna? Also, would there be an easier way to do this? Thanks alot for any help offered.
