If it was my mom and reliability was an issue, I wouldn't be looking at 15 year old MB's.

Don't get me wrong, I love them, but parts & repairs are going to be expensive - and that's if you can find someone competent enough to diagnose and complete repairs properly. If you can't, reliability will go down the toilet, along with a lot of money.

Personally, for peace of mind, I'd either be looking at a GM, honda or toyota with a long model run (not a new model).

Of course, if this is going to be an extra car, and not a replacement one, then it might not be so bad. However, even a car with low mileage will have a lot of wear & parts that need to be replaced after 15 years, though.
