Diesel & bmw,
Your comment about stands is so important. Jacks are for lifting, not supporting. The cheapest jack that lifts the load is fine. Just dont expect it to support the load while you or part of you is under it. We should always lower the car onto the stands and leave the jack there as a back up. If you dont have a stand and need to get under the car use a spare wheel or 2 as a stand, they are very stable in an emergency.
