I have an old thread on the below.

I did a test over 1 year ago with a Digital Thermometer and the Probe attached to the Air Hone on the Air Intake (I removed the Plastic Flex Tube on my Federal Car).

What I found that as long as the Car was moving (84 300D); even in City Driving the under that Hood temp was only a few degrees higher than the outside temp.

The time the under the Hood temp would go up is if you sat in Traffiic at a long light. If I remember it went up to 121 F at one long light but was normally in the 90-97F range. But, that temp does not matter a idle.

So on my Car while it is moving there would be no "hot air Intake" if the if the set-up in the origional post was used.

However, some say that the type of Air Filter used filters poorly.

If you want something like that set up; in one of the Threads someone used a Plastic ABS Plumbing Elbow and added there own Cone type filter to it. They made their own Oil Vapor canister; again I think it was made of plastic pipe but PVC instead of ABS.

I would think that at low speeds the Turbo itself would cause some restriction as the Compressor Wheel would not be turning much. So I think a low speeds the Turbo offers more restriction than the Stock Intake.

Ounce the Turbo gets going I do not think the bend in the Stock Intake has muce effect at all.
