was there
I was living in Buffalo then, going to college and working for my future father in law in his landscaping / snowplowing business. That storm was amazing due to the wind. There was about 12" of snow on the ground and another 12" or so fell, but very high winds for like 36 hours. It made 2 story drifts around anything stationary. We dug out 1 car for a customer and it wouldn't start. Opened the hood and the complete engine compartment was solid snow. You could see the imprint of the underside of the hood in the snow. Lots of stories there. There are still Blizzard of 77 reunions and we have a board game that was sold for the blizzard.
I was living at home, but was at a dorm nearby helping a friend rebuild his carb that Friday. We went in at lunch to warm up, and blam... complete white out. Finally on Sunday I dug my car out and made it home. We plowed snow for a week straight to get everything clear.
Buffalo is wonderful in the summer, but winters are way too long. I've been in SC/NC since '78.
