Your eulogy is always optional. Many people are too overcome to speak. I managed to do it for my dad, even though I'm pretty useless when it comes to other people's funerals. But I comitted to doing it and I practiced my talk for a day or 2. Amazingly I stayed remarkably composed up there. Once the coffin was closed after the viewing (the hardest part for me) it all started getting easier.
