I think my opinion is skewed by the good luck I've experienced in my life. I drove night shift cab in Seattle off and on for years, a bit more dicey than day shift which I did plenty of also. Never had an armed robbery attempt or any other incident that a gun would have made better.

Were I in work that was more risky and had been held up at gunpoint, or were I a woman who had been brutally raped, several times for either of these particularly, I'm sure I'd be much more willing to risk whatever downside there is to carrying a handgun in order to at least have a chance to erase one source of menace and save myself in the process.
