With regard to the second question about a relay to jumper, does that have anything to do with the alarm? I don't know of any alarm related relay behind the cluster, just unplugging the connector at the alarm unit usually does the trick! Good Luck!

I have read that on 1993+, disabling the alram will cause the car not to start...earlier models did not have this security feature.......
also, in the picture, are you talking about the plug on the left of the unit on (the left)? what is the other VDO unit for by the way?
