A good rule-of-thumb for generator power estimation is you will need an engine that can deliver 2 times the HP rating of the expected KW load.

For example to fully power your 12KW generator head you should have something like 24 hp available at your specified generator head input RPM .

Properly geared an OM616 should be able to run a 30KW generator.
