You may wish to consider a rebuilt alt, or a high amperage replacement. If you are going to the trouble of pulling the thing to bits & replacing the diode pack as well as the regulator, you should do the bearings & have the slip rings turned. by the time you do all that, it may have been cheaper and easier just to get a good quality re-manufactured one.
