Real chili has no beans in it. The legal definition of chili, according to the USDA, does not contain beans.
That is why when you buy a can a chili at a supermarket, and it has beans, the label always says, "chili with beans".
I used to make chili at chili cook offs (won 3rd prize once), and the International Chili Cooking Society also does not allow beans to be used. They are considered a filler.
