When I do this on my W124 M103, I leave the serpentine belt on and tensioned, Grab hold of the pulley and us the slightest amount of freeze type loosener on the bolt.

Very frustrating job if the bolts have been overtightened. If you do a search you will find the correct tightening pressure when re installing them.
