I think the article address the reason why in that Toyota doesn't have the ties to groups closely linked to the Democratic party (unions) as GM and Chrysler. Thus, the main stream media, which most would agree tend more to the left (Democrats) than the right would be more apt to jump on the bandwagon against Toyota for something that happens all the time to other car manufacturers.

Maybe it is pretty simple. Everyone expects Yoda to excel so this is news. GM and Chrysler, well, recalls are pretty much standard so WGAS? Write something up about them and who reads it? Write something about Yoda and everybody will be wanting to read.
