Does the brown/purple hook up to the 4 way connector that the doors and A/C also connect to?
Or is it the other way or do I have it all wrong?

NO.... You should just have rubber hose going to the top of the VCV with a green dashpot upstream. There are several "throttles/orifices" in the mix too. There is a page on the proper orifice location here somewhere. That damn diagram is too hard to read.
That is all wrong.... The brown/purple should be coming through the firewall from the ignition switch and run down to the "Shut off valve" on the back of the IP. Color does not matter as long as everything is hooked up properly.
The solid brown should run off of source vacuum and go "into" the firewall to the ignition switch (seen in my last pic).
Then the vent line should run off the side of the VCV, turn and run into the cabin, through the firewall and just end.
At this point it would probably be a good idea to pull the drivers kick panel, look up at the ignition switch and see what color lines are going to and from the switch. Just to be sure. Some one may have replaced a line or swapped one at some point. They may not be the correct color code.
