Just a curiosity. Why do we care if Obama or someone from the GOP has teleprompters? I think the problem is that people are too stupid and want to see someone who impresses them with their speech. Would we vote Hitler in? He was a master orator. He would practice hand gestures and expressions, etc, etc and charm people. Is that what we want? Even in Star Trek DS9 there is the 48th Rule of Acquisition which states: The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife. So why? Does a master orator guarantee that the person can do anything right?

In my personal life, whenever I see someone who speaks well and sounds good, I avoid them like the plague. Why? Because I don't want the risk of them sucking me into something I will regret. I have found it an excellent formula to avoid problems as most of the ones I avoid tend to sucker someone else. Good public speaking is a skill. Why would you master such a skill if not to con someone into your point of view? If you are such a speaker, can I trust that you won't ever try to con me?

Take Bush for example. Would I feel safer buying a used car from him or say Clinton? I'd buy from Bush. Why? Because without any outside help, he couldn't give directions from his yard to the bathroom without tripping up. OTOH, Clinton was a way better orator and I don't know if he would try sell me something I don't want.
