Try putting the transmission in a forward gear first, then go to reverse. the forward gears have synchronizers to align the gears so they don`t grind when shifting. by doing this, it will stop the gears from turning, then going into reverse it should be smooth.

mine will grind also if I just slam it gear w/o waiting a second or two.

reverse does not have synchro`s.

If the fingers (springs) on the pressure plate get weak, then the clutch won`t fully disingage and can cause problem getting into gear.
