the diesel to gas switch is a reach. More than likely the valve body changes the shift point entirely.
A less obvious change is between different year 300 models. I discovered the hard way (after I installed the unit), that my replacement transmission had a different output flange diameter from the original.
That's an easy fix if you have both on hand. There's a big nut that has to be removed on the back. A new nut must be used. Also, there's a seal and a small thrust washer. The hard part is finding the right 29mm socket for the job.
If you have both units out of the car, a quick trip to a NAPA (or other worldpack vendor) will get you the flange nut and seal. A trip to transmission shop and 10$ cash should get the old nuts removed so that you can do the tailshaft swap.
