Can't speak to the man's level of intelligence, but he is certainly an idealogue that pandered big-time to the religious right when he was in office.
I think the social and moral issues are going to be on the back burner for a while - Roe v. Wade tends to fade into the background when you're worried about finding a job and putting food on the table.
OTOH, at least IMHO, Harry Reid is of the same ilk as Santorum - just at the opposite end of the spectrum - and I won't shed a tear when he's kicked out of the Senate as well.
