I'd say it's a bit better then a suburban, you can get these newer models (up til 05) with Diesels. With the subs they stopped making the Diesels in I think 97, so you get unchipped close to 20MPG. I am averaging about 19MPG now. the Subs also tend to get an annoying Whistle in the rear end after 180K. the sub can be a little unweildy to drive, it's a long vehicle, the Excursion handles like a car, the front end is a little squirrely Due to it's stiff suspension but other then that it's a decent ride, but I may have to sell this one to save our house from forclosure... so it may be a easy come easy go sort of thing...
