Ive had the same problems with cell phones !
Follow this flow chart:
Find a good solid wall or the ground.
Throw product at it as hard as you can.
Is it working?
If yes continue on.
If no buy a new one as now its clear what is wrong with it. 
works on cellphones but its worth a try on a Ipod.
