Interesting. I've never tried alcohol because spit works so well. I'm sure it's of no concern in such small quantities, but alcohol does tend to dry out rubber by dissolving out the emollients used to keep it soft. That's why back in the day we used to clean tape deck capstans with alcohol, but the pinch roller was always cleaned with water or spit. Repeated cleanings with alcohol always made the rollers smooth and hard and lacking in grip.
