The reason they are so quick is actually they have a VERY peppy rear axle and move at pretty quickly from stop lights in the city, because of the gearing.
Which means, naturally, at much higher highway speeds they will run out of breath quicker than the long legged cruisers like the US spec 300SEL variants that have "lazier" or "economy" rear ends.
