BTDT with several high HP MBs like my 92' 500E and former 97' SL600 Sport and 99' E55. Plus 3 C43s that came thru the shop in the past. If he has the stock fluid in there then its def worth a try. In fact, the 500E has had Redline in it for 10 years...and shifts perfectly still at 155K.
Every manufacturer wants you to use what they brand themselves...and while it makes sense from a corporate standpoint, it doesn't take into account that there are products that exceed that are not OE.
