Based on my limited experience with MB's so far, I would venture to say that some of the 104's had cast iron exhaust manifolds with insulating shrouds and others have unshrouded stamped stainless manifolds. The cast iron manifold will always be quieter than the stamped steel versions. Just my $0.02 worth.
