Good question but intermittent failures are a problems are harder to solve.


Cam positional sensor? Your car being an 87 has an M103 motor- no cam positional sensor. You have 2 crank sensors. The one at the bell housing is the one you'd most likely replace.
Besides looking in the service manual- and make sure it specs out.. that's all I could tell you.
