instrument panel turn signal bulbs

Took the dash out and repainted the needles. Also put new LED bulbs in. However, I cannot get the Turn signal bulbs to work. I turn on the turn signal or hazard flashers, and the light outside the car work as advertised, however, the indicators in the instrument panel do not. I've tried changing the LEDS around figuring I have the polarity backwards, but still no-go.

Any ideas?

Also, if I go back to the regular incandescent light, what bulb type do I need (the old bulbs broke coming out) I should be able to get them at the local auto parts store.....right?

Thanks,

GLenn
