What I did is (different model MB) held the hand held remote near the car button pressing both at the same time for 15 seconds or so THEN press the LEARN button on the GDO and go back to the car quickly and press the car button. Basically, the method I used is outlined in the 2010 E350 manual which can be seen and d/l at the MB-USA Site. Took me a couple of attempts but it worked (the manual outlines the "rolling code method" like it is a separate method but I had to do the FULL 7 or 8 steps to get mine to work).
