I think I would actually put a little oil into each plug hole, turn it over once by wrench from the crank pulley and leave it a few hours before doing anything else. The ring area will be last to get get relubed by the oil pump, so this will help with that. It might increase the smoke on startup, but that also increases the dramatic effect of the engine rebirth (esp. if you play Ride of the Valkyries at high volume).
