Stumbling during braking - Transmission w124 E420

This is kind of a shot in the dark but I thought I'd post it anyway just to see if anyone might have to insight for me. Car is a '95 E420 and the problem is that the car "stumbles" as it comes to a stop. By 'stumbles' I mean I can feel the car clearly pulling through the gears as it comes to a stop. The result is that I constantly have to adjust pressure to the brake pedal in order to ensure a smooth stop. It's ever so subtle and initially thought it was simply a low trans fluid problem. Anyone have any insight?? One potential culprit is the harness on the drivers side of the valve body which looks to be in pretty bad shape (exposed wiring) but that's the only thing I can think of. (this harness as far as I know is responsible for de-clutching) It's as if the trans isn't fully going into a neutral state during braking. If I put the car in Neutral I don't have any of the symptoms I described above.

Keep me posted!!!

Thanks in advance!!
