Identify engine part near EGR

What is the thing I have circled in red in these pics? It had that line going to the EGR and then the other one up to the box on top of the valve cover. I would appear my 85 does not have one at all. This is on the '83 300D.

I broke the one fitting off when trying to replace the tubing connector that was split open. It does not seem to matter to performance with it like it is. Should I just remove the longer line that is still connected and block it off?

That little green line is where that short vac. line was routed. I left it clipped to the holder so I wouldn't loose it and knew where it went if I have to reconnect it.
