Its the IP Oil supply-line....

The Oil Returns to the engine at the front where its mounted to the block...

IP contains around half a litre which is constantly 'topped up' and 'overflows' back to engine via hole in mounting-flange, near the shaft, this ensures it always has a constant supply of fresh-oil...

The 'M' type pump does not have external oil-line, it gets its supply via the front where it mounts to the block...
