Make sure you use correct bearings. As the alt spins so fast, standard tolerance bearings tend to fail premature.
I have found the slip rings fail at about 500k miles (not km).
Often the pulley shows its age by then and has a widened V. This causes the belt to run on the bottom of the V & not grip so well under load. If you are replacing the brushes make sure the slots in the reg are ok & the new brushes are not able to go sideways a little. If they can, they & the slip rings will not last.
