I'm sure the movie did some good on the world stage. That clip is a good one. I just didn't think Zorba would have that kind of coarse laugh. Silly I guess. I used to think I was going to somehow be part of a remake of Zorba, the movie. Oh yeah . . .
Might happen who knows, but it would take a miracle for me to be involved in it. It's common, I guess, for people who really dig a book to be disappointed with the movie.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest hit the mark for me, I read the book first. Ken Kesey, the author, is said to have not liked it though. Oh well.
The other big movie made from a book by Kazantzakis, "The Last Temptation of Christ," was also a disappointment for me. But getting anyone to play Jesus is going to be tough, and Willem Dafoe didn't strike me as a good Jesus. It was the first book I'd read by him - it was sort of hip book to read back in the mid 70s among dilettante spiritual seekers. The last chapter was a trip. (dude, I felt like I was on acid . . . ) The Greek Orthodox Church forbade Kazantzakis to be buried in a church cemetery on account of the book.
Maybe I'll watch it again.
