Yes. The torque converter is not locked to the transmission, only bolted to the flex plate and slip splined to the input shaft of the transmission..

Unless you where able to drain the t/c be prepared for a few quarts of AFT draining out as you separate them.

As you pull the automatic away from the engine you will leave the t/c connected to the flex plate.

If your doing this on the floor, moving the trans' a inch away from the engine will allow you to reach the flex plate bolts....this way you won't spill any ATF.
