As someone posted, most states have a REQUIREMENT that you are due your pay within a specified time frame from the COB on any payday where the employees are all paid at the same time.
If you get fired or resign, some states say that you're entitled to your pay by the COB of the 3rd calendar day you're no longer employed by said firm. At least, in Wisconsin, that's the way it works (or use to...I'm not sure if there's been any changes in that rule since '96.).
You need to read the rules for NY to see what specifically applies to you. Different types of employees have different pay-timelines and related rules associated with those specialties. Sales people seem to get "shafted" with a VERY different rod than normal blue-collared folks...so be aware of those styles of orders...
