Don't feel so bad..
Back in my college days, (after I got out of the service), I was in a class and the teacher asked if anyone knew what day it was. The teacher was Al Severance, who was also the former head basketball. A good coach and a well respected man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Severance

Al had the well earned nickname of "Screamin Al" So in his gruff voice, he asks the class:
"Does anyone know what day it is today? And don't tell me 'Its Tuesday!'"
It happened to be November 11, 1969.
No one knew.
I remember it like it was yesterday.

Here's my favorite scene from The Longest Day.
