Maybe I was a bit overzealous in my speed bump hate

. I do slow down for speed bumps whether I'm driving something with stock suspension or my 300E which is
slightly lowered. It's just too much stress on the suspension to take a bump at speed. I also don't drive more than 25mph through neighborhoods. Or speed through parking lots. I didn't say it was solely the child's responsibility not to get hit, I am watching very carefully for balls going into the street and children playing when going through neighborhoods.
A human doesn't have many advantages over a car, even going 15-25mph. Children also need to be taught to be aware of cars, that is all. I sure payed attention to cars driving through the streets while playing as a kid. But I also know kids who were completely oblivious and almost got hit multiple times, who's to blame?
Therefore most people who aren't 16 know its not acceptable to take it up to 60 in the grocery store parking lot. And since most people don't even bother slowing down for parking bumps in the first place, what's the point in having them? They do have a very small place in certain instances. I can see people speeding through a mountain town at ridiculous speeds. In that situation a speed bump is a reasonable solution. It just seems to me, that America has become a nanny-state of speed bumps.
